MK 11 Escape Suit
The suit which includes a stole and ascent hood, not only keeps the escapee dry and protected from cold shock during escape, but also acts as a thermally efficient immersion suit on reaching the surface. Full protection is therefore provided whilst deploying and boarding the life raft.
The suit with stole and ascent hood provides sufficient lifting force to take the escapee from the submarine to the surface at a safe speed of approximately 2 – 3 meters per second.
The SEIE MK11 is the result of substantial trails and tests including live ascents at sea from submarines and simulated escape from 200 meters. The submarine Escape Training Tank (SETT) at HMS Dolphin and DERA Gosport have played key roles in working with Beaufort and MOD Navy (Technical Branch) in the development of the SEIE MK11 following introduction of the patened design. The system was fully approved, qualified and introduced into service by the Royal Navy in 1994.
The SEIE MK11 now sets the definitive global standard for submarine escape and survival equipment.
MK 11 Surface Abandonment Suit
The MK11 Surface Abandonment Assembly is based on the proven pedigree of the RFD Beaufort MK10 SEIE. RFD Beaufort has designed an optimum solution for very specific and unique submarine escape requirements – drawing on proven materials, proven vacuum packing methods and many years of experience in designing and manufacturing submarine escape suits and jerkins.
The MK11 SAA has been specifically designed for the abandonment of the submarine while on the surface and can be used in conjunction with the RFD Beaufort Submarine Liferafts; both built in and carry on variants. The comparable design between the MK11 SAA and SEIOE MKK11 means training and implementation of this product into service is very quick and effective., without the need to implement new training practices.
MK 10 Jerkin
The RFD Beaufort Escape Jerkin Mk10 is designed to enable free ascents from a stricken submarine from depths down to 180 meters either by using an escape tower, or by free ascent via the trunk escape system, when it may be inflated from either the BIBS equipment or from an integrally fitted air cylinder.
The Jerkin is intended for use in submarines operating in temperate waters where protection of the escaper from exposure on the surface is not considered vital.
