Wear a lifejacket, it never ruined a day on the water’ the strapline printed on the 450 Crewsaver Kite Lifejackets supplied to Transport NSW as part of a unique partnership formed to promote safer boating.

TThe Maritime Management Centre within Transport NSW has worked to deliver over the past 18 months the largest boating safety program the state of NSW has ever seen, and the supply of these new jackets will form part of the second phase of the “Wear a lifejacket” initiative, promoting the wearing of a lifejacket whenever on the water.

Andrew Has Completed The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge

Survitec Group recently supported rower Andrew Abrahams, rowing for Adventure4aCure, who completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in 57 days, 17 hours, 54 minutes and 20 seconds, finishing 7th overall ahead of 5 other teams. Andrew is the only solo rower to have completed the gruelling 3000 mile row from La Gomera to Antigua and the second Australian to have ever made the crossing.

The Survitec Group assisted Andrew with some key safety equipment, wanting to ensure he had the best product available if an emergency did arise. The Survitec Group supported Andrew with the loan of the latest RFD ISO9650-1 liferaft, pyrotechnics, a Crewsaver immersion suit, an Ergofit lifejacket from Crewsaver and assorted personal safety items. Andrew said “I’m ecstatic to have completed this epic journey. It was exceptionally difficult to be alone out there at times and to reach Antigua feels unreal – you gotta wanna!”

Survitec Relocates to Bigger Premises in Perth

Marine safety specialist the Survitec Group has relocated its WA sales and service offices to a new and substantially larger premises in the suburb of O'Connor.

Operating until recently as RFD Australia, and now under the Survitec Group banner, the company maintained a branch office in North Fremantle to service the commercial and recreational marine markets. While the old complex suited the company well, it ultimately became too small to sustain the growing demands of the local market.

The shift to new premises at the neighbouring suburb of O'Connor represents the next stage in the growth of Survitec in WA.

RFD Supplies Fire Service With 1200 Purpose Designed PFDs

With a seemingly frequent occurrence of floods sweeping through Queensland over recent years, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) has taken delivery of, and distributed 1200 RFD designed and manufactured Swift Water Rescue Jackets across its Queensland Rescue stations.

Through an exhaustive tender process, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service developed a very tight specification for their new Swift Water Rescue jackets.

"We reviewed the brief and saw this as a very worthwhile challenge," said Neal Skinner, Queensland Regional Manager, Survitec Group, owners of the RFD brand.

Quality Raft Saves French Sailor

The highly publicised rescue of French solo sailor Alain Delord has a local link since the same liferaft deployed and used is identical to the RFD Transocean raft sold in Australian by Survitec.

Solo round-the-world sailor Alain Delord was approximately 500 nautical miles south of Hobart in the Southern Ocean when his 11m yacht was dismasted. As it became clear that his boat was sinking he set off his EPIRB and abandoned ship, taking to his Transocean life raft.

In total, Alain Delord aged 63 spent over 50 hours alone in his 4-man ISO rated liferaft before being rescued by the cruise ship Orion.

Courage comes in many forms. Following active front line tours with the Australian Defence Force in Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, avid fisherman and boatie, James Prascevic, turned to boating to confront his biggest demon of all – depression.

Having been medically discharged from the Army after a career spanning 9 ½ years, James found his life changed for worse when he became a civilian. Post-traumatic stress disorder manifested itself in bouts of depression and alcohol abuse.

"About the only time that I felt okay when I was on the water fishing off Lorne," James said.
